Manava Seva Dharma Samvardhni is pleased to present SADGURU GNANANADA AWARD – 2004 to Dr. Azmat Nayeem, in deep appreciation of outstanding and pioneering effort in establishing Women’s Organisation for Managing Economic and Educational Needs (W.O.M.E.N.) in 1986, at Hyderabad, an organization that focuses on issues of women and works for the welfare of the girl child.
Dr. Azmat Nayeem, a social scientist by profession, shifted her focus from the research studies to action oriented assignments that dealt in reducing the miseries of the underprivileged women and education and empowerment, which may reduce their dependency and help them, lead sustainable lives.
Her Organisation W.O.M.E.N. aims to uplift the poor urban slum women both educationally through motivation and awareness building and economically through technical education and income generation programmes. They also extend their support to the elderly and the children the adapt-a-granny scheme, caters to about 175 old people and offers recreation for the elderly and the children, food grains, clothing, medical check-up and income generation.
Dr. Azmat Nayeem has been the recipient of many awards for her commitment and dedication in the welfare of children and women, notable amongst them is the “Women of the year -2000” award. She has many publications to her credit in the field of Development, Women & Child welfare, Science and Society. She is also a prominent academician and has worked with many institutions.
This award is a token of the grateful appreciation of the entire society for the meritorious work of Dr. Azmat Nayeem, for her tireless initiatives in ensuring women to become self-reliant and have a secure future.
